For the past few days I’ve been re-watching episodes of Modern Family.
If you’ve never heard of this show, the tagline might help you understand what it’s about: One big (straight, gay, multi-cultural, traditional) happy family. See that old guy on the left? His name is Jay and he’s the dad of Claire (blonde in the middle) and Mitchell (redhead on the right).
Jay Pritchett divorced his first wife (the mother of Claire and Mitchell) and married a woman much younger than him, Gloria Delgado-Pritchett. He’s not the biological father of Gloria’s son, Manny Delgado, but he treats him like one. Jay trying to get through the whole age gap problem is just so funny plus there’s the whole cultural difference because Gloria and Manny grew up in Columbia. Gloria has a hilarious accent and I love it when she says yes because she ends up saying jes. Manny is a sensitive hopeless romantic and he’s got a little crush on Hayley (Claire’s daughter), he says they’re not related by blood so it’s okay. Haha!
The “traditional” family. Claire is married to Phil Dunphy and they have three kids: popular teenager Hayley, tween nerd Alex, and the not-so-smart (I’m being nice here) but very adorable Luke. I think Phil might be my favorite character. He reminds me so much of pop and Claire also reminds me of mom. Actually this whole semi-dysfunctional family reminds me of my own, so it’s my favorite family out of the three haha!
Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker have been a couple for five years and they adopt a Vietnamese baby named Lily at the start of the season. The two are complete opposites, Mitchell is a lawyer and is what my gay friends would call “top” while Cameron is “bottom” being all flamboyant and overly friendly to everyone. This family is hilarious, they argue all the time but it shows how much they love each other. I bet it must be hard for a gay couple to be first time parents! Cameron is super duper gay which is funny because in real life, he’s the straight one (Mitchell is gay in real life)!
I remember the first time I watched Modern Family when it first came out in 2009 and I instantly fell in love with it. The whole mockumentary works, it’s already one of my favorite TV series.
I’m so into it that I screencapped this scene from my laptop hahaha!
I could screencap so many other scenes from different episodes of the series but that would take me forever because every little thing is funny.
I also want to give a special mention to Hayley’s idiot boyfriend, Dylan.
I can’t wait for the premiere of the second season scheduled to air on September 22, 2010. To those who haven’t seen season one, you’ve got time to catch up!
What do you think of Modern Family?
